Social Work Scholarships

Through the establishment of scholarships and endowments, donors support the efforts of students in the College of Health Sciences. Listed below are several scholarship opportunities for our majors. Students are encouraged to also check with department chairs and program coordinators regarding regional, state and national opportunities.

Scholarship awards are contingent on adequate funding.


Carol J. Gross Memorial Scholarship

Approximate Amount: $1000

Eligibility

  • Available to graduate students enrolled in the Master of Social Work with a preference for the Community and Organizational Practice concentration.
  • Preference will be given to out of state students or students who reside outside the geographic region reached by the Department of Social Work's internship/field work program.
  • Recipient must demonstrate a commitment to social justice, overcoming challenges, and empowering those they serve to ensure that basic needs such as food, shelter, health, and education are met.  

Delia and Marshall Courtney Scholarship

Approximate Amount: 2 scholarships of $1500 each

Eligibility

  • Major in Social Work
  • Good academic standiing with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Financial need
  • Resident of North Carolina

The Leadership in Equity & Empowerment (LEE) Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Full-time or part-time MSW student
  • The scholarship is targeted to those MSW students who have demonstrated a commitment to, and an interest in pursuing leadership roles in the realm of 'macro' social work practice.
  • Examples of interest and demonstrated commitment by potential ricipiants may include but are not limited to:
    • Selection and/or participation in the Community & Organization Practice concentration within the MSW program.
    • Participation and/or leadership in policy advocacy efforts.
    • Participation and/or leadership in community development, community planning or other community practice efforts.
    • Interest and/or participation in supervisory and leadership positions in organizations and/or communities 

Eligibility for this scholarship is also available to Advanced Standing MSW students who are interested in the Community and Organizational Practice concentration and are admitted during Summer Session I or Summer Session II. 


The Nancy Kester Neale Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Amount: $555

Eligibility

  • Available to full-time Social Work Majors who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Preference is given to a student who exhibits a strong commitment to community and social services

The Stephanie Aneta Randall Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Amount: $480

Eligibility

  • Available to full-time Social Work Majors who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Preference is given to a student who exhibits a strong commitment to community and social services
